Introducing the Bootstrap Kombucha Blog!

We couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that we’re closing in on our one-year anniversary taking place on May 1! Reflecting on our first fantastic year in brewing up our booch for you, we thought it was about time that we started sharing important updates about our kombucha, as well as associated useful information, recipes and our thoughts on trends and such all related to the booming popularity of our favorite fizzy drink.
James and I have been kombucha drinkers for years, but in the past it was quite difficult to find fresh kombucha that we loved and that also wasn’t pasteurized, bottled and placed on grocery store shelves. If kombucha is to be bottled, it may be pasteurized, which subsequently kills all the good-for-your-gut bacteria which is also one the main reasons why kombucha fans are typically attracted to it in the first place.
Because of the limited choices in kombucha and our steadfast commitment to the beverage due to its wonderful flavor and how it makes us feel, we initially decided to start brewing it at home in five gallon wooden barrels just for our own consumption. We did a great amount of research and tested different tea blends and flavor profiles until we perfected the recipes that we currently use today for Bootstrap Kombucha. We’re excited to be experimenting with new flavor combinations to share with our wholesale partners and customers all over San Diego.
One of the main motivating factors for me when deciding that we would start brewing kombucha commercially for both retail and wholesale customers, other than the fact that I love it, is that I’m really against soda. Who doesn’t love the refreshing effervescence of carbonated beverages? But unlike soda, kombucha provides a wonderful alternative that is not full of sugar and artificial ingredients.
All in all, we’ve been very pleasantly surprised and are extremely grateful that so many people have been so receptive to our kombucha. The best things that have come out of this entire experience are the incredible people that we’ve met and the wonderful relationships. We’re very excited to find out what this year has in store as we continue to grow!
Stay tuned for more on this blog to keep up-to-date about what’s happening with us and in the world of kombucha!
